There's definitely a N-S divide when it comes to weather this year, with some too hot and others too wet, but the summer holidays continue. School kids are starting to get bored, so why not get them out and about when the sun shines? Or if it's raining don waterproofs and go puddle splashing!

Loads of cheap fun can be had in the countryside - it's often good to remember that children don't need expensive technology and games to occupy the time. Get back to basics on a pushchair walk (also suitable for young walkers!), and getting outside helps bonding, fitness and wellbeing as well! If you need an extra excuse that is!

ATP Books

Great news! The Argyll and Lochaber book, published by Sigma Press, is now available. Once again a selection of 30 stunning walks suitable for wheels to give you an introduction to this stunning area. Available in local bookshops and on Amazon.

Those of you in Wales and Yorkshire will be pleased to know that the new editions of the books for Snowdonia, West Yorkshire and the North York Moors will be available soon, complete with new covers and updated walks and information.

Walking with iPhones?

Got an iPhone? If so, as long as you can access the internet you can download our walks while you're out and about. Particularly useful if away from home and stuck for somewhere to go, remember our pdf files can be opened in iBook and other apps, so you don't even need a printer and paper! Not only that, but feed in the started Grid Ref into the gps app to get you to the start of the walk, and you can even see the relevent part of the OS map using the Ordnance Survey's Get-a-Map online service.

So now you've got no excuse not to get out and about!

Nature Walks

Look up your local nature reserve, as many have children's activities in the holidays, or you can pich up tree and animal identification guides for a fun bit of surreptitious education! Or take a bucket walking with you to collect rocks, leaves, cones etc - you can look for creepy crawlies (remember to put them back!) or gather objects for an art project when you get home.

Attraction of the Month

Attractions and events from around the UK, all year round activities and seasonal events... If you want to recommend a personal favourite, email us here.

Enginuity, Ironbridge

This fantastic "museum" (used very loosely) is a must for all budding scientists and engineers! That is, if they get a chance as when we visited the adults enjoyed it just as much. A huge room full of wheels to turn, buttons to press, balls to sort, bridges to build and much more! Highlights for us were the mini hydroelectric dams and moving a real train by hand! There's also an indoor picnic area and parent and child toilet cubicle - why don't more places provide these? Absolutely brilliant!

(N.B. pushchairwalks.co.uk has not necessarily visited the attractions featured and cannot be held responsible for the content of external websites or the quality of the attractions themselves.)

Route News

ATP Walks Yorkshire Dales: Route 30, Nidd Gorge, Harrogate has become impassable by pushchair as a result of erosion exposing tree routes and rocks. Until we hear it has been repaired please do not attempt this walk.

Though we check as many routes as possible we can't visit them all, so please keep route changes coming in to us, they are invaluable in keeping the site up to date. If new obstacles have been encountered, please let us know where on the route they are so we can pass on the information.
