EASY ACCESS TRAILS |
Easy access trails are starting to appear across Britain, so here is a selection in North Wales. These are official trails and have not necessarily been tried and tested but should be suitable for wheels. |
Coed y Brenin near Dolgellau has 2 all ability routes from the visitor centre - the Eden Trail along the riverside and the harder Cefndeuddrw Trail with great views.
Bodnant Garden, Conwy has an easy access route round the main features, but there are some moderate inclines. And you can explore a bit further with a pushchair!
Coed Bryn Meurig, Bethesda (opposite the Spar) - a short trail with playground and picnic area, completion due any day!
Alyn Waters Country Park - well surfaced sculpture trail and a selection of cycle paths to explore.
Pont Llogel, Llyn Vyrnwy - good gravel path to a riverside picnic area. |

PWNW31: Llyn Llewelyn, Beddgelert Forest |
2 hrs 30 mins: 4.5 miles (6.5 km)
This is a beautiful but strenuous walk through woodland to reach the tranquil Llyn Llewelyn, which nestles on the lower slopes of Moel Hebog. On a clear day there are amazing views across to the Snowdon, Cnicht and the Moelwyns. The walk follows forest tracks, but these can be very rough in places and so is not suitable for very small babies. |
PWNW 22: Riverside Walk, Beddgelert |
45 mins: 1.5 miles (2.5 km) |
This is a gentle walk on metalled and gravel paths along the banks of the River Glaslyn through woodland and meadows. On a clear day you can see Snowdon. From 2008, this walk will run alongside the newly rebuilt Welsh Highland Railway, so it's a must for train lovers! Suitable for all - newborns, wheelchairs, new mums needing gentle exercise and toddling tots! |
PWNW9: The Dingle, Llangefni |
1 hr: 1.75 miles (2.5km) |
Take a stroll around the recently regenerated Dingle nature reserve along paths and boardwalk past wooden sculptures, benches and picnic tables. The area is abundant with wildlife, with oak, ash, wild cherry and sycamore trees and woodland floors carpeted ferns, mosses and bluebells, wood anemones and wild daffodils in spring. A very easy walk, suitable for all! |
PWNW10: Llyn Cefni, Llangefni |
2 hrs: 4 miles (7.5 km) |
This walk takes you along easy paths and forest tracks around the Llyn Cefni, a large secluded reservoir. The lake is sheltered by coniferous forests and provides the perfect setting for a tranquil walk with lots of wildlife to see on the way. It can be muddy in wet weather. |

PWNW25: Llyn Cefni and The Dingle, Llangefni |
3 hrs: 6.5 miles (10km or 5 km) |
This is a long, easy walk taking you through the Dingle nature reserve to Llyn Cefni. Boardwalks now link the two, and there are plenty of opportunities for seeing birds, both on the lake and in the woods. Gravel paths, boardwalks and forest tracks with a short stretch on a narrow woodland path. |

PWNW27: Riverside Walk, Tal-y-Bont, Harlech |
1 hour: 1.5 miles (2 km) |
This is a short walk by the River Ysgethin which is bordered by picturesque woodland and this is a nice shady walk for a summer's day. There's even a pub with children's playground on route! Though level, the paths are bumpy and there is an awkward gate near the start which is easier with two people. |

PWNW28: Woodland Walk, Tal-y-Bont, Harlech |
2 hours: 3.5 miles (5.5 km) |
Not for the faint hearted and definitely not for small babies, this is a tough stomp up a rocky riverside path to reach a moorland road with stunning views. And as a bonus there's the reward of a pub with a children's playground at the end of the walk! |
PWNW34: Loggerheads Country Park and Devil's Gorge, Mold |
2 hrs : 3 miles (5 km) |
This is a gentle stroll round Loggerheads Country Park on the banks of the River Alyn, before heading out of the park through woodland and past caves to the Devil's Gorge – an impressive limestone canyon at a mine entrance. Fairly flat, but the path outside the country park is awkward and can be slippery. |
PWNW39: Bethesda Slate Trail |
1 hour 30 mins: 3 miles (5km) |
A lovely walk from the former quarrying town of Bethesda through woodland and along an old slate railway, now a multi-use trail with lovely views of the Carneddau mountains. There are 2 kissing gates to lift over and an easy flight of steps (down), but the paths are good and mostly metalled or slate gravel, so suitable for strollers. |
PWNW46: Llyn Parc, Gwydyr Forest, Betws-y-Coed |
2 hours 30 mins: 4.5 miles (8km) |
A long, undulating walk through woodland to a secluded lake. Lovely views on route and there's the chance to visit atmospheric mine buildings. Tracks and paths are good all the way, but there are some steep inclines and rough sections, so ATPs only. |
